Three ways to use essential oils are inhalation, topical application, and internal consumption.
The inhalation of essential oils heightens the senses triggering numerous desired responses in the body. One way is direct inhalation. This is just simply smell them. You can do this just by opening the bottle and sniffing straight out of the bottle. Another way of using the inhalation method is using a Young Living diffuser which disperses the oil in a micro-fine vapor into the air. The Young Living diffuser will not heat the oils ensuring full benefits, as extreme heat can damage important constituents in the oil. Sometimes I will place a handkerchief that has a drop or two of an oil on it over steam vent of a humidifier (never put oil into humidifier, as it will not mix and could damage the humidifier.)
Topical application is simply to apply essential oils directly onto the skin where indicated. Dilute with V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or a pure vegetable oil (e.g., olive, grapeseed or avocado oil) before applying if dilution is indicated in the Application Chart. Dilution may protect against possible skin sensitivities. Key points of application on the body area. Essential oils are very potent, and some may be irritating to the skin. Dilution is key when applying, but if irritation occurs, immediately apply additional carrier oil to the area for additional dilution. Please read label directions for each individual oil before using.
There are a few key areas to use when applying essential oils. Those areas are the crown of the head, temples, behind the ears (NEVER IN THE EAR), on the neck, upper back, abdomen, over vital organs, on the soles and top of the feet, at the ankles.
Internal consumption is usually best done via a capsule. I prefer the 00 (zero zero) size. Put several drops of oil or mix of oils into an empty capsule, add carrier oil and swallow with water. Essential oils, primarily the vitality series, can be added to water, meals when cooking or honey. I have even put a drop directly onto the tongue and swallowed. Use extreme caution when using this method as many oils are very strong. If consuming in this fashion, first test it by pouring a single drop onto a spoon and tasting a small portion to determine the amount of oil to be used.
